After working on a few thumbnails, I come up with the idea of a druid dolmen tomb, crowned with swirl-designed stones,
standing inside a small ruined chapel. A massive iron cross stands guard over the site, imbued with some holy power that
has kept it undamaged over the centuries. The perspective lines are always drawn first in freehand and then the shapes
and forms are blocked in. I make a habit of holding the sketch up to a mirror every ten minutes to keep the perspective tight
while I draw.
Getting a scale reference on the page from the beginning is very important. If I left it to the painting stage, there'd be some
nasty surprises, like stairways only giants could climb or tunnels only the smallest of hobbits could fit through!
